Breaking the Silence (BTS), Teaching the Next Generation About Mental Illness, is an educational package for teachers teaching three grade levels–upper elementary, middle school, and high school. The program is designed to give teachers the tools they need to teach about mental illness. It includes ready-to-teach lesson plans, stories, games, posters, crossword puzzles, and more. The main objective is to help teachers and students understand that mental illness is a no-fault brain disorder.

Teachers who have used the program, including members of our local NAMI organization, cite the program as very effective and easy to use.

More information can be found at http://www.btslessonplans.org . Each package costs $20 for each grade level or $55 for all three, plus shipping & handling. Posters are available for $7.95 each.

To have the program presented to teachers at your school (who would then teach the program), call 610-882-2012 or e-mail info@nami-lv.org.
